【摘要】:EMATtechniquesshowbenefitsandadvantagesoverconventionalpiezoelectricultrasonictechniquesinspecialapplicationswhereflexibilityinthetypeofwavemodegenerationisdesired.EMATsarehighlyefficientinthegenerationofsurfacewaves.SinceEMATsarehighlyefficientinthegenerationofsurfacewaves,andsinceacoustictechniquesutilizingsurfacewavesareproveneffectivefordetectingsurfaceandnear-surfacediscontinuities,theyshouldbeconsideredforanyapplicationswhereconventionalpenetranttestingandmagneticparticleNDTtechniquesareeffectivebutundesirable.SinceEMATtechniquesarenon-contacting,theyshouldbeconsideredforultrasonictestingwhereapplicationsinvolveautomation,high-speedinspections,movingobjects,applicationsinremoteorhazardouslocations,applicationstoobjectsatelevatedtemperatures,orobjectswithroughsurfaces.ThepurposeofthispracticeistopromotetheEMATtechniqueoftheultrasonicmethodasaviablealternativetoconventionalPTandMPTmethodsfordetectingthepresenceofsurfaceandnear-surfacematerialdiscontinuities.TheuseofEMATsandtheselectionofappropriateoperatingparameterspresupposeaknowledgeofthegeometryofthecomponent;theprobablelocation,size,orientation,andreflectivityoftheexpectedflaws;theallowablerangeofEMATlift-off;andthelawsofphysicsgoverningthepropagationofultrasonicwaves.ThisprocedurepertainstoaspecificEMATsurfaceinspectionapplication.1.1ThispracticecoversguidelinesforutilizingEMATtechniquesfordetectingmaterialdiscontinuitiesthatareprimarilyopentothesurface(forexample,cracks,seams,laps,coldshuts,laminations,throughleaks,lackoffusion).Thistechniquecanalsobesensitivetoflawsanddiscontinuitiesthatarenotsurface-breaking,providedtheirproximitytothesurfaceislessthanorequaltotheRayleighwavelength.1.2Thispracticecoversproceduresforthenon-contactcouplingofsurfacewavesintoamaterialviaelectromagneticfields.1.3Theproceduresofthispracticeareapplicabletoanymaterialinwhichacousticwavescanbeintroducedelectromagnetically.Thisincludesanymaterialthatiseitherelectricallyconductiveorferromagnetic,orboth.1.4Thispracticeisintendedtoprovideexaminationcapabilitiesforin-process,final,andmaintenanceapplications.1.5Thispracticedoesnotprovidestandardsfortheevaluationofderivedindications.Interpretation,classification,andultimateevaluationofindications,albeitnecessary,arebeyondthescopeofthispractice.Separatespecificationsoragreementwillbenecessarytodefinethetype,size,location,anddirectionofindicationsconsideredacceptableornon-acceptable.1.6Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandards.TheSIunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
